My youngest son shares his birthday with Rosa Parks. It's hard to describe to my kids, white children growing up in an overwhelmingly white state, the importance and bravery of her seemingly simple act of refusing to give up her seat on the bus that day, but I have always tried to give them a sense of how different things were then, and how that one small act helped ignite a movement that changed the face of America.
